# What is the difference between USD and USDT?

USD (United States Dollar) is the official currency of the United States, which is used as a medium of exchange for goods and services in the country and globally.

USDT ([Tether](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/t/tether-usdt.asp)) is a stablecoin cryptocurrency that is pegged to the value of the US dollar. This means that 1 USDT is intended to be equivalent to 1 USD, and it is used to provide stability to cryptocurrency trading by providing a digital representation of the USD that can be used to trade other cryptocurrencies.

The main difference between USD and USDT is that USD is a physical currency that is issued by the government, while USDT is a digital currency that is issued by private companies. Also, the value of USD is determined by market forces such as supply and demand, while the value of USDT is pegged to the value of USD.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.sure2.win/cryptocurrency/what-is-the-difference-between-usd-and-usdt.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
